It's Time for Drupal 7

Sun, 10/30/2011 - 11:35 -- Michele

Out with the old, in with the new! And to celebrate, I've rebuilt my site with Drupal 7.

Back when I tried D7 in February 2011 for the first time, I was a little overwhelmed by the lack of contributed modules and the state of the ones upon which I rely. Admittedly, for this site, Features and perhaps Context are a bit overkill, but it's good to be able to report back to my team at Smashing Ideas that they're either ready or far better than they were in D6. I'll go into the kinds of things I'm working on in later posts (as NDA permits), but for now, suffice it to say SI is getting ready to move into Drupal 7 in a big way.

A site without Views, Context or Features would be a sad state of affairs for me, but I'm happy to say the new Views 3 is beautiful. I so admire the work of Earl Miles (and the team that helped him bring it to us for Drupal 7). And while I'm on the subject of praising Drupalers, I'm also grateful to the community in general. I can only hope that I can give back even a fraction of what has been given to me over the course of my dive into Drupal.

Before I forget, I'm also loving the promise of the dynamic duo of Delta and Context. The only thing that would make me ecstatic would be a means of rolling my Delta settings into Features just as I do Content Types, Context and Views. I'm eagerly watching to see how this evolves.
